Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the north Sri Lanka coast at 5:30 am today under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Despite the formation of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal, weather experts have stated that there is no immediate concern for Odisha, with the system unlikely to cause any significant weather impact on the state.
According to the latest Meteorological Analysis issued by IMD, the upper air cyclonic circulationover southeast Rajasthan & neighbourhood now lies over West Madhya Pradesh and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over south east Arabian Sea & adjoining Lakshadweep off Kerala coast at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The upper air cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan & adjoining Rajasthan & Punjab now lies over West Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. The system is expected to become more marked during the next 48 hours.
However, IMD officials have clarified that the low-pressure system is located quite far from the Odisha coast and is not likely to affect the state’s weather conditions significantly. No warning or alert has been issued by the IMD for Odisha regarding this system so far.
Further updates will be issued by the IMD depending on the movement and intensification of the system.
