Bhubaneswar: Another low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal, with a cyclonic circulation expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha by August 28, according to prediction of the India Meteorological Department.
According to the forecast made by the weather scientist Sarat Sahu, this system may intensify further and could turn into a low-pressure area by August 29 or 30. Its impact is expected to be felt in the state even before that. Under its influence, rainfall is likely to increase over north Odisha and coastal Odisha between August 27 and 28.
In the past 24 hours, Balangir recorded 101 mm of rainfall, Baragada 95.8 mm, Jharsuguda 37.3 mm, Malkangiri 36.4 mm, and Jajpur 31.5 mm.
The highest rainfall of 162.2 mm was recorded in Barakote block of Debagada district. Four blocks received more than 100 mm of rain, while nine blocks and one urban area recorded rainfall between 50 and 100 mm.
From August 1 to 25, the state has received a total of 344.4 mm of rainfall.
