Mayurbhanj ADM Orders Probe Into Dumping Of Expired Drugs

Baripada (Mayurbhanj): Mayurbhanj Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Netrananda Mallick on Wednesday said the district administration would conduct an inquiry into the alleged dumping of large quantities of expired medicines near the Mayurbhanj District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

The alleged dumping of expired medicines, reportedly worth crores of rupees, has raised concerns over the disposal of medical waste in the district. The waste reportedly included antibiotics, masks, syringes, testing kits and other essential medicines.

Mallick said the administration received information about the matter from the media and other sources and assured that appropriate action would be taken if the allegations were found to be true.

“We received information from the media and other sources regarding the matter. Medicines should not be misused. The government is giving top priority to healthcare, education and sanitation,” Mallick said while speaking to reporters.

He said the District Collector had also held a meeting with medical officers at the Collectorate on Wednesday and directed officials to focus on rural healthcare, particularly the needs of tribal people living in the district.

“If the matter is found to be true, I will intimate the District Magistrate, and we will conduct an inquiry. Action will be taken as per the provisions of law. There will be no escape,” Mallick said.
