Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has moved slightly west-northwestwards and lay over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts at 5:30 AM on Sunday.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the system is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 6 hours. The IMD has forecast that the depression will move west-northwestwards across North Odisha and North Chhattisgarh over the next two days.
Due to the system, several districts of Odisha have already been witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall since Saturday.
The IMD has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts and a thunderstorm alert for 9 districts for the next few hours. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and district administrations have been put on alert for possible waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas and disruption in normal life.
