Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area currently lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, according to the India Meteorological Department’s Bhubaneswar centre today.
The system was earlier located over the northwest Bay and the nearby north Odisha-West Bengal coast. At present, it persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its adjoining region.
According to the IMD, the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards with height. The weather office added that the system is likely to become more marked during the next two days.
Under its influence, rainfall activity is expected to increase over Odisha. Fishermen and residents in coastal districts have been advised to keep track of IMD updates for further developments.
Meanwhile, the regional weather office has advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha Coast from July 3 to July 7.
