Bhubaneswar: As many as 50 passengers narrowly escaped a major mishap as the bus they were on board hit a divider on NH-16 near Indira Chhak under Basta police limits in Balasore district on Friday late night.

According to sources, the bus driver lost control over steering and dashed a divider when the bus named Dakhyanee was on its way to Kolkata from Balasore. However, no casualty was reported in the accident.

Soon after the mishap, alternate arrangements were reportedly made for the passengers and they were sent to Kolkata in another bus.

It is learnt that the bus driver and helper fled the scene after the accident.

Basta police, meanwhile, seized the bus and started an investigation into the matter.
