Paradip: A major fire broke out at a plastic pipe stockyard near Zero Point in the Paradip area of Jagatsinghpur district on Monday, causing thick smoke to spread over Paradip and nearby areas.
The fire broke out near the civil township of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) stockyard.
According to Paradeep Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Niranjan Behera, he stated, “The fire began near the IOCL stockyard around 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. As soon as we were informed, we immediately alerted IOCL and their fire tender vehicle quickly arrived at the scene. Soon after, fire personnel from the Kujang fire brigade joined the effort, working together to douse the flames.”
Behera continued, “In addition to the fire teams, local police, including personnel from the Paradeep Model police station, as well as fire department officers were present at the site. A total of 10 to 15 fire tender vehicles responded and the situation is now under control. We expect the flames to be completely extinguished within the next 30 minutes. There is no cause for panic, and fortunately, no injuries have been reported.”
Once the fire has been fully contained, IOCL’s team will conduct a survey to assess the extent of the damage, Behera confirmed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the company initiating inquiries into the incident.
