Malkangiri: Residents of Malkangiri district are set to get direct commercial air connectivity with the state capital Bhubaneswar from September 3, marking a significant milestone for the remote border district.
The new air service, which is expected to fulfil a long-standing demand of the people, will initially be operated with a nine-seater aircraft. A dedicated online portal for ticket booking is also expected to be launched shortly, enabling passengers to reserve seats from their homes.
Preparations by the district administration to facilitate the operation of the service have reached the final stage. The trial run of the airport runway and security arrangements has also been completed successfully, officials said.
The District Collector described the launch of the Malkangiri-Bhubaneswar air service as a historic achievement for the district. The new connectivity will reduce travel time for passengers and is expected to boost social connectivity, tourism and economic activities in the region, the Collector said.
The air link is also expected to benefit sectors such as healthcare, education and business by providing faster access to Bhubaneswar and other parts of the state.
The district administration has urged prospective passengers to use the online booking facility once operational and make use of the new air connectivity.
