Malkangiri: Malkangiri Police have arrested a 35-year-old man from Jagatsinghpur for allegedly circulating fake recruitment advertisements offering jobs in government healthcare institutions and cheating unemployed youth by collecting money on the pretext of providing appointments.
The fraudulent advertisements, which had been widely circulated in Malkangiri town, invited applications for posts including Security Guard, Supervisor, House Keeping Supervisor, Security Officer, Baby Care staff and Hospital Attendant at Community Health Centres (CHCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and the District Headquarters Hospital. The notices also carried a mobile number for enquiries and claimed that selected candidates would receive attractive salaries.
The advertisements triggered suspicion after social workers brought the matter to the notice of the Superintendent of Police, pointing out that no such recruitment notification had been issued by the government. They urged the police to investigate how a private individual was claiming to recruit candidates for government health institutions.
Acting on the complaint, Malkangiri Police registered a case on August 4 and launched an investigation. During the probe, the police identified the accused as Biswajit Jena of Jagatsinghpur district.
Police alleged that Jena had been circulating the fake recruitment notices and collecting substantial amounts of money from unemployed job aspirants by promising them government jobs. Three mobile phones and copies of the fake advertisement leaflets were seized from his possession.
Further investigation into the case is underway under the supervision of Malkangiri IIC Debadatta Mallick to ascertain the extent of the fraud and identify any additional victims or associates, police said.
