Cuttack: Cyber Cell police arrested a resident of Nemalo area in Cuttack district for allegedly blackmailing school girls by stealing their photographs from social media sites and sending them morphed obscene pictures and videos.
The accused has been identified as Biswajit Bhuyan, a Commerce graduate of Nemalo area.
Bhuyan was arrested following a complaint by a woman who had alleged that her daughter’s social media account has been hacked and the accused had uploaded her morphed pictures. She had further alleged that the accused was blackmailing her daughter.
“The accused used to befriend minor girls on social media sites through fake ids and then steal their pictures and videos. After morphing these pictures and videos he used to upload those and blackmail them,” informed Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.
Chandrika Swain, IIC Cyber Police Cell has appealed to students as well as their parents to be very careful so far privacy is concerned while using social media platforms.
Swain said users should never share any information with strangers while adding that the Cyber Police are always there to help them.
