Baripada: A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by Additional District and Sessions Judge (1) Court in Mayurbhanj for raping a Divyang woman at Deulia village under Badasahi police station in the same district.
Judge Satya Narayan Patra convicted the accused, Vikas Chandra Mohapatra of Deulia village under Badasahi police station. The court also ordered Mohapatra to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 and undergo an additional six months in prison in case of default payment.
After considering the statements of 32 witnesses, medical reports, and police investigation reports, the judge convicted Mohapatra. The judge also directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide compensation to the victim.
Notably, in November 2022, the Divyanga woman was alone in her house while her ailing father was in a separate house. Taking advantage of the situation, Mohapatra forcibly took the disabled woman inside the house and raped her. After returning home, she informed her family, who filed a complaint at the Badasahi police station. The police recorded the victim’s statement, investigated, arrested the accused, and tried him in court.
