Nayagada: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband following a dispute over money to buy alcohol at Kachapalli village under Nuagaon police limits in Nayagada district, police said.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at the couple’s residence after the woman allegedly refused to give money to her husband for purchasing alcohol. The refusal reportedly led to an argument, during which the man allegedly assaulted his wife severely.
The woman sustained critical injuries and subsequently died, sources said.
The matter came to light after the woman was found dead at the house, following which local residents alerted the police. A police team reached the spot and began an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police are also questioning local residents and others acquainted with the family while collecting evidence to establish the sequence of events.
Meanwhile, the accused husband reportedly fled the area following the incident and remains absconding. Police have launched a search to trace him.
Further investigation is underway.
