Bhubaneswar: Cuttack Rural Police has secured a conviction in a case of illegal cattle transport and organised crime registered at Tigiria Police Station.
The Additional District Judge, Athagarh, convicted accused Taju alias Tajuddin Khan alias Tayab Khan under Sections 317(2), 303(2), 126(2), 132, 3(5), and 111(2)(b) of BNS, Section 7 of the Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1960, and Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,00,000 under Section 111(2)(b) BNS. He was also sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 303(2) BNS.
The case pertains to Tigiria PS Case No. 223 dated 15.10.2025. The FIR was registered on 15.10.2025. The charge sheet was filed on 17.12.2025, within 63 days. Charges were framed on 07.04.2026. The judgment was delivered on 30.06.2026.
The investigation was conducted by SI Priyadarshini Ipsita. The case was represented by Debasish Shit, Additional PP, Cadre, and Sri S.K. Mishra, Additional PP.As per the case details, on October 15, 2025, Tigiria police intercepted a convoy in Baulanga.
They seized a vehicle transporting nine cows in cruel conditions for slaughter and identified an escort vehicle. The perpetrators had escaped from the spot. The operation revealed a habitual cattle theft ring. A case was registered under the BNS, Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Cuttack Police has reiterated its commitment to ensuring speedy justice in cases of illegal cattle transport and organised crime.
