Rayagada: A man went missing after he was reportedly swept away by a strong current while bathing in the Vamsadhara River at Bikrampur bathing ghat in Gunupur of Rayagada district on Wednesday, officials said.
The missing person was identified as Rup Singh Majhi, a native of Chandagiri village under Kashipur block. Majhi was staying in the Gunupur area and working as a labourer with a private agency.
According to reports, Majhi had gone to the river with some of his co-workers on Wednesday morning to take a bath when he was swept away by the strong current.
After being alerted, personnel of the Gunupur Fire Services reached the spot and launched a search operation with the help of a boat. However, Majhi remained untraced till the time of filing this report.
