Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly murdered by her brother in Raipalli village under Aska police limits in Ganjam district, on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Laxmi Mohanty while the accused has been identified as Babaji Patra, who attacked her with a knife and a hammer.

According to sources, Laxmi had been living with her mother Tanu Patra for a long time. Today, her brother Babaji Patra came home and asked Laxmi to give her a mobile phone. As she declined to do so,  the accused had a heated argument with his sister over that matter. In a fit of rage, Babaji killed Laxmi.

On information, Aska police reached the spot to investigate and nab the accused who is absconding following the incident.

Police are yet to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder, but preliminary investigation suggests that the crime was committed due to a family dispute.
