Baripada: District Sessions Court, Baripada on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment after convicting him of murder.
The court sentenced Jagabandhu Nayak (40) of Belakuti village under Khunta police limits of Mayurbhanj district to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 after convicting him for the murder of Keshari Nayak of the same village in 2021.
The court further ruled that upon failure to pay the fine amount Jagabandhu has to undergo imprisonment for six months more.
According to the case records, at around 7.30 pm on September 25, 2021, Jagabandhu of Belakuti village attacked Keshari Nayak of the same village and hit him on his head.
A profusely bleeding Keshari who was lying on the village road was rescued by his family members and rushed to the Govt Hospital at Badasahi and later shifted to PRM Medical College & Hospital at Baripada. As his condition deteriorated he was further shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack.
However, on October 14, 2021, Keshari died while undergoing treatment.
Based on Keshari’s brother Manglu’s complaint police had registered a case and arrested Jagabandhu on September 26, 2021.
