Bhawanipatna: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly set on fire by her father-in-law over dowry demands in Kalahandi district. The woman has been admitted to hospital in critical condition.
The incident took place in Gotamunda village under Koksara block. The victim has been identified as Gitanjali.
According to information, Gitanjali got married in 2021. Since her marriage, her in-laws were allegedly subjecting her to physical and mental torture over dowry. Her father-in-law allegedly poured petrol on her and set her ablaze on yesterday evening. The woman was rescued in critical condition and was first admitted to Dharmagarh Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Following the incident, Gitanjali’s father lodged a complaint at Ampani Police Station. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
