Bhubaneswar: A devastating fire broke out late last night at the Mishra Lime godown in Balasore, Odisha, resulting in the tragic death of a supervisor who was burnt alive.
The deceased has been identified as Kailash Chandra Behera, who was working as a supervisor at the limestone godown.
According to preliminary information, Behera jumped from the roof along with other employees to escape the raging flames. While attempting to flee, he fell into a nearby drain and was trapped as the fire spread rapidly, leading to his death.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes as employees, trapped by the intense blaze, jumped from the roof screaming for help. Some passersby noticed the fire and raised alarms. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and successfully doused the flames after a significant effort.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, though officials suspect a short circuit may have triggered the incident. Further investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events and assess the extent of damage to the godown.
Local authorities have initiated necessary procedures, and condolences have poured in for the family of the deceased.
