Asha Digga, a woman in khaki from Sundergarh district, has been controlling traffic at a busy junction while carrying her five-month-old infant in a baby carrier bag on her arm. Her dedication to her profession and motherly love has made her a cynosure of all eyes.
Asha’s story is one of resilience and determination. Her husband met with an accident and became bed-ridden, leaving her to shoulder the responsibility of the family. With no one to care for her baby, she decided to take her child along with her to work. For months, she has been juggling her duties as a homeguard and a mother, earning admiration from her colleagues and the public.
“I have to do my profession and care for my kid simultaneously. As no one in the family looks after my baby, I have to bear the brunt of family as well as profession,” Asha said, her words reflecting her unwavering commitment.
The dual role played by Asha has not gone unnoticed. Commuters passing through the busy traffic square often stop to behold the scene, some even offering a silent salute to the brave homeguard. “We have been seeing her performing eight hours duty under the sun and rain with her infant. Her act of such dual role is really appreciated,” said a commuter.
Another woman passerby thanked Asha for her duty. “Being a mother, I feel her difficulties. Performing the duty of a mother and profession is much difficult. She has become an example for others,” she said.
