Baripada: A man and his wife were found hanging from a tree behind their house in Raibani village under Jharpokharia police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Kalipada Bhakta and his wife Somabari Bhakta.
According to sources, around 12 noon, a neighbour, Pushpa Bhakta, spotted the bodies hanging from a guava tree while returning from the forest. She immediately alerted the couple’s son, Dipu Bhakta. With the help of locals, the bodies were brought down and alerted the police.
“I suspect someone from outside is involved in the murder. I urge the police to carry out a thorough investigation and bring the culprit to justice,” said Dipu Bhakta.
Upon receiving the information, Jharpokharia police reached the spot, seized the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem. A blood-stained steel digging bar was also recovered from the scene.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are probing the incident from all possible angles. Further investigation is underway.
