Bhubaneswar: The youth who allegedly killed another youth by stabbing him 16 times at Balarampur locality under Town police limits in Kendrapara district, is mentally unstable, police sources revealed.

The deceased was identified as Akhaya Kumar Khatua (35) of Saranga village Sadar police limits in Kendrapara district. Akshaya was an air conditioner mechanic.

The accused has been identified as Aditya Prasad Behera, son of Adikanda Behera from Chandia Palei village of Kansar panchayat.

Akhaya was buying betel for him and his friend Balaram at a betel shop when Aditya reached there. Aditya attacked Balaram for some unknown reason. When Balaram managed to flee the scene, Aditya attacked Akhaya with a knife and stabbed him 16 times. Though Akhaya was rescued by locals and rushed to a district headquarters hospital in Kendrapara, he succumbed to his injuries soon after reaching the hospital.

Upon being informed by locals, Town police reached the spot and took Aditya to the police station for interrogation.

Police have registered a case in this connection.

Sources close to police revealed that the accused is mentally unsound.  He might have committed the crime without having any personal grudge.
