Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi returned from a two-day visit to New Delhi today, asserting that Odisha is now transitioning from a Mine Economy to a Mind Economy.
During the visit, he attended the Semicon India 2026 conference on Friday and the State Finance Ministers’ Conference organized to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today.
After returning, the Chief Minister made a statement to the media at the Bhubaneswar airport. Majhi said that at the State Finance Ministers’ Conference, there was extensive discussion on financing required to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat (Financing India’s Journey towards Viksit Bharat).
In view of the huge need for finance for agricultural logistics, cold chain and warehousing, the Chief Minister emphasized that the Central and State Governments should jointly provide finance for this.
He said the Prime Minister is giving more importance to clean energy. Odisha is also moving towards clean energy generation from traditional energy sources. He emphasized on viability gap funding and multi-lateral partnership in the energy infrastructure sector in the state with a focus on clean energy.
From Mine Economy To Mind Economy: CM Highlights Semicon SuccessReferring to the Semicon India 2026 conference, the CM said Odisha’s semiconductor and advanced technology sector has achieved unprecedented success.
He expressed confidence that Odisha is fully ready to take the lead in the semiconductor and electronics sector in eastern India towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.
The Third Amendment to the Semiconductor Policy has been approved to promote establishment of semiconductor industry in the state. A decision has been taken to establish a world-class Odisha Silicon Valley at Naraj, Cuttack, on an area of 870 acres to create a dedicated semiconductor manufacturing hub, he said.
For growth of research in the state and for commercialization of research-based knowledge, the National Industry Co-Development Hub on Integrated Power Electronics project worth Rs 452 crore has been approved in partnership with IIT Bhubaneswar. The Odisha government has contributed Rs 125 crore to this.
Due to this, talented and highly educated youth of the state will be able to get respectable jobs in their own state without going abroad. With all these steps, Odisha is now moving from a Mine Economy to a Mind Economy, the CM said.
Informing that Odisha has received investment proposals worth about Rs 23,600 crore at Semicon India 2026, the Chief Minister said more than 6,000 new direct jobs will be created. A Letter of Intent has been signed with QuadQuantum for manufacture of silicon carbide substrate wafers at the conference.
One-to-one discussions were held with 18 companies, roundtable meetings were held with five companies and three companies signed Letters of Intent with Odisha.
In this conference, successful discussions were also held with delegations from Japan, Sweden, Taiwan and major global technology companies like Lam Research, Applied Materials, Sixchem, 3-D Glass Solutions, Intel and he hoped that more capital investment will come in the coming days.
