Phulbani: School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the Government Girls’ High School in Pakanagaon village under Kandhamal district and expressed shock over the poor student attendance.
Out of 378 enrolled students, only five were present in the school. The Minister, visibly upset, called a meeting with the school staff and reprimanded the teachers for the dismal turnout.
“Today is the second day since schools reopened after the summer vacation, yet students are still not attending. I am deeply saddened by this situation,” Minister Gond told reporters.
He said he has directed the teachers to take proactive steps to bring students back to school and ensure regular attendance.
“I instructed them to fulfill their responsibilities sincerely. The school premises, including the garden, must be well maintained. The teachers have assured me that these improvements will be implemented soon,” he added.
The Minister further said that he will conduct more surprise inspections across the state to assess the performance of teachers and the functioning of schools.
“Only through collective dedication can we ensure quality education for our children. If rules are not followed, appropriate action will be taken,” Gond warned.
He also mentioned that a review meeting with the District Magistrate will be held soon to address the situation and plan corrective measures.
