Jharsuguda: In a shocking incident at the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, a minor girl who was staying as an attendant for a relative’s treatment was allegedly raped on the hospital premises.
Airport police have arrested three persons, including the main accused and a woman, in connection with the crime.
According to police, the incident came to light after a complaint was filed at Airport Police Station. The victim, a minor, was at the hospital as an attendant for her relative. Seeing her alone, Raja Besan (24) of Buromal Gauntiapada allegedly forcibly raped her. Akash Pradhan (20), and Trupti Nayak (19), a woman from the same locality reportedly helped the main accused execute the crime.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a special team led by Airport Police Station IIC Prashant Kumar Sethy launched an investigation.
Police registered a case under the POCSO Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and conducted raids. On Wednesday, police arrested accomplices Akash and Trupti from the Buromal area during raids. Based on their inputs, the main accused Raja, who was attempting to flee, was nabbed in the evening. All three were produced before the court.
The brutal assault on a minor attendant inside a crowded and supposedly secure government hospital has triggered widespread outrage and concern in Jharsuguda.
Police meanwhile conducted a medical examination of the victim and further investigation is underway.
