Berhampur: A 10-year-old boy died after falling in an overflowing open drain at Laxminrusingh Sahi under Bada Baazar police limits in Odisha’s Berhampur. The deceased, identified as Sairam Patra, was reportedly returning from tuition on his bicycle when the mishap occurred.
According to reports, the open drain was overflowing due to incessant rain and Sairam fell into it, his parents alleged. According to reports, the boy was swept away in a drain overflowing with rain water.
Locals immediately launched a search for the boy but could only recover his bicycle. His body was recovered from the drain at around 2:00 am on Thursday.
Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Bhabani Shankar Mishra later told the media that two drains in the area are connected to a culvert. The boy was playing near the culvert when his bicycle fell into the drain. Sairam fell in the drain while trying to recover his bicycle from the drain.
