Jharsuguda: Extortion of money was the main motive behind the kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old Samarth Agarwal from Krishna Apartment in Sarbahal area of the town on March 27, police said.
“Amit Kumar Sharma and Dinesh Agarwal were in need of money. Their main motive behind this act was extorting money from parents. Amit was very close to the family. Though they were not blood relations they were like a family,” informed Jharsuguda SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas addressing a presser here today.
Parmar said that Police have arrested another accused Ganesh Naik.
“You all know we had arrested two accused persons-Amit Kumar Sharma and Dinesh Agarwal in the kidnapping cum murder case. We got them on remand for three days on 1st April. In the course of our investigation and further interrogation role of another person named Ganesh Naik of Burla was found,” said Parmar.
Ganesh assisted Amit and Dinesh in arranging the place in Burla where Samarth was confined on the intervening night of March 27 and 28 and on the next day morning lent them his scooty to buy petrol, Parmar added.
The SP told that Ganesh has been arrested and will be forwarded to court.
He said that the prime accused Amit had attempted to cause self harm and he was overpowered and taken to hospital.
The accused persons were kept under CCTV surveillance during their three-day remand period as per instruction of the court, he added.
