Bhubaneswar: More than 20 lakh vehicles lacking fitness to run on the roads, and aging over 15 year, will be scrapped. Sharing details on this matter in the Assembly on Thursday, Commerce and Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu said that in accordance with the Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility Policy-2022, more than 20 lakh vehicles will be phased out from the roads to reduce vehicular pollution.
As many as 20,39,500 vehicles, older than 15 years and lacking fitness, will be scrapped. The vehicles to be scrapped include 12,99,351 two-wheelers, she said. The scraping policy, that has made mandatory scrapping of over 15-year-old vehicles at the scrapping centre, has been introduced to reduce vehicular pollution. Owners of old the vehicles will also get incentives to buy new vehicles, according to policy guidelines.
