Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park is preparing to bring African cheetahs for the first time ever.
The arrival of these fastest land animals is expected to be a major milestone for the zoo and attract more visitors, as Nandankanan currently does not have any cheetahs.
Construction work on the specialised cheetah enclosure is underway, with zoo officials confirming that the habitat is being designed to international standards.
A dedicated viewing gallery is also being developed to allow visitors a safe and unobstructed view of the animals. To enhance clarity and ensure visitor safety, a premium glass viewing panel imported from Thailand will soon be installed, giving the enclosure a world-class finish.
The new habitat is being enriched with herbivores to help the cheetahs exhibit natural hunting behaviours, closely mirroring conditions in the wild.
Known for their ability to sprint up to 120 kmph, cheetahs are expected to become one of the biggest attractions at Nandankanan once they arrive.
With preparations almost complete, the arrival of African cheetahs marks a major milestone for Nandankanan.
