Naxals Exchange Fire With Police In Kandhamal; IEDs, Detonators Seized

Bhubaneswar: An exchange of fire took place on Wednesday between police personnel and Naxals at Manikasaru Hill under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district.

However, the armed Naxals managed to escape taking under the cover of dense forest and rain.

According to reports, acting on intelligence reports about the presence of Naxals at Manikasaru Hill under Baliguda police limits on Kandhamal-Kalahandi border police launched an operation.

During the operation at around 12.15 PM on Wednesday the Naxals exchanged fire with the police personnel. While the police chased them, they managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest and rain.

Following the exchange of fire police personnel intensified the search operation in the area leading to the discovery of a deserted Naxal camp.

Police have seized five huge bags along with daily use items from the site of the deserted camp. While one of the bags contained Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and detonators, the other four bags were not opened till reports last came in.

Police have intensified combing operations in the area.
