Bhubaneswar: The alleged child theft incident at Rajsunakhala Community Health Centre in Nayagarh district took a dramatic turn as the couple who complained about it confessed to fabricating the entire story.
As per reports, Sudhismita Jena, a resident of Godabhanga village in Bolagarh block of Khordha district, was unable to conceive a child despite visiting numerous doctors and undergoing various medical treatments. This led to mental distress for Sudhismita and her husband, Bijay Kumar Jena. To escape the social stigma and humiliation, the couple hatched this plan.
The couple’s plan was exposed after a thorough investigation. The police scrutinized the CCTV footage installed at the medical facility and found that Sudhismita had not given birth to a child. It was revealed that she had faked the entire incident. After the whole matter came to the fore, both the accused husband and wife begged pardon to evade arrest, said sources.
A complaint was filed against the couple and their family members at the Ranpur police station by the medical authorities. The police registered a case under sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the IPC and began investigating the matter.
To stage the fake child abduction, the couple visited the Community Health Center on November 30. They first sat in the medical waiting area for some time. Then, they went to the gynaecology and obstetrics department on the first floor, where they waited for some more time. Later, they went downstairs and staged the fake child abduction drama.
