Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi hailed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as a symbol of indomitable courage while celebrating Parakrama Divas in Cuttack. Marking the 128th birth anniversary of Netaji, the Chief Minister acknowledged his bravery and fighting skills as pivotal to India’s independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been paying tribute to Netaji since 2021 by celebrating his birth anniversary as Parakrama Divas. The Chief Minister noted that this celebration is a great opportunity to honour the brave son of Odisha in his hometown.

Historians and British rulers have admitted that Netaji’s fight for independence prevented the British government from ruling India for several more years. In recognition of his bravery, Ross Island has been renamed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

“It is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the birthday of this brave son of Odisha in his hometown. Many historians and the British rulers of that time have also admitted that if Netaji had not fought, the British government could have ruled India for a few more years. He said that in honour of Netaji’s bravery and struggle, our Prime Minister has renamed Ross Island as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose,” Majhi said.

Netaji’s birthplace, Odia Bazaar in Cuttack, is a testament to his enduring legacy. He spent his childhood there and was a brilliant student at Ravenshaw Collegiate School. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for the younger generation to learn about Netaji’s life and connection to Cuttack.

The event, organized by the Department of Culture, Government of India, and the Government of Odisha, featured a video message from the Prime Minister, a photo exhibition, and felicitations for INA veteran Lieutenant R. Madhavan Pillai.

Deputy Chief Minister  Pravati Parida, Minister for Odia Language, Literature and Culture  Suryabanshi Suraj, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahatab, former Union Minister K.P. Singh Deo, Union Culture Secretary Arunish Chawla were prominently present at the event.

A video message given by the  Prime Minister was shown at the event organized by the Department of Culture, Government of India and the Government of Odisha. A photo exhibition on Netaji’s life has also been organized by the Union Culture Department at Satyabrat Stadium.
