Balasore: Passengers of the NJP-Chennai Express (New Jalpaiguri Express) had a narrow escape after the train derailed near Sabira railway station under Soro police station in Balasore district on Saturday afternoon.
The train, which was travelling at a high speed, experienced a mechanical fault, causing its battery and mechanical equipment to fall off. Fortunately, all passengers on board are reported to be safe.
According to reports, the New Jalpaiguri Express train (22612) had departed from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal bound for Chennai Central. The derailment occurred near Belsabira, just a few meters away from Sabira railway station in Balasore, at around 3:15 pm.
Following the derailment, batteries and other mechanical equipment fell from the train. While passengers were unharmed, the train has been undergoing repair work for an extended period, affecting train movement on this line.
