Bhubaneswar: A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in a banana orchard at Kakirigumma village under Laxmipur block in Koraput district on Sunday morning.
According to reports, locals heard cries coming from the orchard near Santoshi Colony and, upon checking the area, discovered the infant lying unattended. They immediately alerted the police and local authorities.
On receiving the information, a team from Kakirigumma Police, along with officials of the Child Protection Society, rushed to the spot and rescued the newborn.
The baby was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical examination. Hospital authorities said the infant is in stable condition and is under observation.
Police have initiated an investigation to trace those responsible for abandoning the child.
