Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission of India is set to organise a two-day hearing camp in Bhubaneswar on July 21-22 to address cases related to human rights violations.
The Chairperson of the Commission, Justice V. Ramasubramanian, along with members Justice (Dr.) Vidyut Ranjan Sadangi, Vijaya Bharati Sayani, and Priyanka Kanungo, will preside over the hearing of cases on July 21 at the State Auditorium, starting at 10 am.
The Secretary General of the Commission, Bharat Lal, Registrar (Law) Joginder Singh, and other senior officers will also be in attendance.
The hearing camp aims to provide speedy justice to victims of human rights violations and sensitize authorities about human rights issues. The Commission will interact with representatives of civil society organizations, voluntary organizations, and human rights defenders. State authorities and complainants have been asked to be present to facilitate on-the-spot discussions and resolution of cases.
The cases to be heard include attacks on journalists and human rights activists, crimes against women and children, deaths due to snakebites and lack of medical assistance, flood crises in coastal districts, human rights violations due to witchcraft allegations, and trafficking of girls and women.
Following the hearing of cases, the Commission will meet with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and other senior state officers to discuss human rights promotion and security issues. On July 22, the Commission will meet with representatives of civil society organizations and human rights defenders. The media will be briefed on the outcome of the hearing camp to disseminate information on human rights issues in the state and the steps taken by the National Human Rights Commission.
This initiative is part of the Commission’s efforts, ongoing since 2007, to conduct hearing camps across the country, with previous camps held in various states, including Odisha.
