Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department (H&FW) on Wednesday said there was no need to panic over the emerging COVID-19 situation in the State, stating that the current trend indicates only a low and seasonal rise in cases.

Taking note of recent media reports regarding COVID-19, the department said the situation is being closely monitored in accordance with the guidelines and protocols issued by the Government of India.

According to information received from the Centre, based on an independent assessment by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the present COVID-19 scenario reflects a limited seasonal uptick and does not indicate any alarming trend.

“The current data points to a low, seasonal increase with no cause for panic,” the department said in a statement.

The Health Department said routine surveillance mechanisms and standard clinical vigilance measures would continue across the State. Health authorities will maintain regular monitoring of the situation and take necessary steps in line with the prescribed protocols.

The department assured that the State’s health system is fully prepared to respond to any change in the situation and that developments are being continuously reviewed in coordination with the Centre.
