Bhubaneswar: The water level in the Baitarani River at Akhuapada is currently at 18.29 meters, which is slightly below the danger mark but still above the warning level, according to the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department, Chandra Sekhar Padhi.

“Citing data from the Central Water Commission, Padhi said, “The water level is not expected to rise further, effectively ruling out the risk of flooding. The department is still on alert, and all necessary precautions are being taken. We are prepared, and the district administration is also vigilant.”

The Chief Engineer further stated that the water levels in other rivers, such as the Brahmani, Budhabalang, and Mahanadi, are still above the danger mark.”

Meanwhile, the Hirakud Dam is discharging water through eight gates, with a flow rate of 4 lakh cusecs. The water discharge is also happening at Rengali through two gates.

Padhi assured that there is no flood threat in other areas and that the department is closely monitoring the situation. With the current water levels and discharge rates, the situation is under control, and the department is taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety.
