Bhubaneswar: A notorious criminal was injured in police encounter near Rengali in Sambalpur on Tuesday evening. The criminal, Deepak Mandal. Mandal sustained injuries during and was subsequently admitted to VIMSAR, Burla.
According to reports, Mandal was roaming in the Ramapela forest under Rengali police station when the police received credible information about his presence. Upon arrival, Mandal unexpectedly opened fire at the police, but fortunately, no personnel were hit due to his poor aim. In retaliation, the police fired, hitting Mandal twice in his right leg.
The police have recovered a 7.65mm country-made pistol, two live cartridges, and a white Honda scooter from the scene. Mandal has a history of criminal activities, with cases registered against him at multiple police stations, including Ainthapali, Vreshrarajpur, Burla, Sadar, and Town.
