Jharsuguda: A notorious criminal was injured during an encounter while attempting a robbery under Rengali police station area of Jharsuguda district on Saturday.
Jay Chauhan was injured after being shot in the right leg during the exchange of fire. He was rushed to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
According to reports, Jay Chauhan, a resident of Gandhi Chowk in Brajrajnagar, was planning a major armed robbery in the Rengali area along with his accomplices. Acting on specific intelligence, a special police team conducted a raid at the location. When the police team arrived, the criminals attempted to flee and opened fire at the police. In retaliation and for self-defence, the police team also fired, during which Jay Chauhan sustained a bullet injury to his right leg and collapsed on the spot. One of his accomplices managed to escape from the encounter site.
It is learnt that Jay Chauhan is a habitual offender with more than 10 serious criminal cases registered against him in various police stations, including attempt to murder, dacoity, extortion, and violations under the Arms Act.
