Bhubaneswar: The second phase of the Odisha Assembly Session began on a stormy note on Tuesday, with opposition parties Congress and Biju Janata Dal creating a ruckus over issues pertaining to the college union election and inaction against the Governor’s son. The chaos led the Speaker to adjourn the House till 11:41 am, just minutes after the session commenced.
As per the report, the Assembly session began on a sad note as the House paid tributes to former Jashipur MLA Sundar Mohan Majhi. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi moved a condolence motion, which opposition party leader Pramila Mallik supported. The House observed a moment of silence to pay respects to the departed leader.
Later, the House witnessed a ruckus as Congress and BJD members clashed over two separate issues, leading to the stalling of proceedings.
The Congress party created a stir in the House, demanding the holding of college union elections, which have been delayed for a long time.
On the other hand, the BJD created uproar over inaction against the Governor’s son who reportedly assaulted assistant section officer Baikuntha Pradhan. The party accused the ruling party of trying to divert attention from the issue and demanded action against the Governor’s son.
The Odisha Assembly Session, which resumed at 11:41 am after an initial adjournment, was adjourned again till 4 pm due to continuous uproar created by Congress and BJD members.
As soon as the House reassembled, Congress and BJD members began shouting slogans. The Speaker tried to restore order, but the opposition parties continued to create a ruckus, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House again till 4 pm.
