Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area has developed over the adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coast in the northern and northwestern Bay of Bengal, informed the India Meteorological Department.
According to meteorological observations, the system formed at 5:30 am today under the influence of an active cyclonic circulation that was present in the region yesterday. The low-pressure area is currently lying over the coastal belt and adjacent sea areas.
It is learnt that the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha & Gangetic West Bengal during next 2 days.
For today, the IMD has issued a Red Warning for Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places is very likely in these districts. An Orange Warning has been issued for Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places. Besides, a Yellow Warning has been sounded for Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal and Rayagada, where heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places.
