Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet has approved the extension of the “Nabakrushna Choudhury Secha Unnayan Yojana” for a further period of five years, from 2025-26 to 2029-30, with an outlay of Rs. 1437.00 crore. The scheme aims to revive lost ayacut by renovating and modernising old major, medium, and minor irrigation projects, enhancing the irrigation area beyond design capacity.
The extension of the scheme is expected to restore the irrigation potential of 1,23,448 hectares and increase additional irrigation coverage of 4,862 hectares. This will lead to optimum utilisation of designed irrigation, reducing the gap between Irrigation Potential Created (IPC) and Irrigation Potential Utilised (IPU).
The scheme will have a positive impact on agricultural productivity and per capita income of farmers, ultimately contributing to the state’s economic growth. By reviving lost command areas and augmenting irrigation coverage in existing projects, the scheme aims to achieve optimum utilisation of available irrigation potential.
