Odisha CEO Announces Rs 15 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Polling Official Killed In Road Accident

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) NB Dhal on Sunday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh to the family of a government employee, who was killed on election duty. The ex-gratia payment is according to the ECI guidelines, Dhal said.

Alekh Randhari, a Class-IV employee of a government school, was killed in a road accident near Swami Vivekananda Vidyamandir in Nabarangpur district on Saturday while he was on the way to a polling station for the upcoming dual elections in Odisha on Monday.

According to a report from Odisha’s Ganjam district, a bus carrying polling personnel and EVMs overturned near Pitatali in the district on Saturday. The bus was transporting polling personnel along with EVM machines to Kharriaguda in the Chikiti Assembly segment in the district.

SP (Berhampur) Sarthak Sarangi said all the polling personnel and the EVMs are safe. The polling personnel have been sent to their allotted booths at Khariaguda by another vehicle.
