Bhubaneswar: An important meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Odisha Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan to ensure the smooth and effective conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the state.

Senior representatives of all seven recognized political parties of Odisha attended the meeting. The primary objective of the SIR process is to make the electoral roll clean, accurate, and error-free by including eligible voters and deleting the names of those who are no longer eligible.

During the meeting, Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan briefed the political parties on the technical and administrative aspects of the Special Intensive Revision. He underlined the crucial role of political parties in strengthening the democratic process by helping include genuine voters and maintaining the purity of the electoral rolls. He also urged all parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in every polling station to make the process more cooperative and effective.

Representatives of the political parties actively participated in the discussions and shared their views and suggestions, particularly on the registration of new voters, issues related to migrant voters, and the deletion of names of deceased and shifted persons from the electoral list.

Gopalan appreciated the constructive suggestions given by the party representatives and assured them that all valid points would be taken into consideration. He reiterated that the entire SIR exercise will be carried out strictly as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sushant Kumar Mishra, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Gopinath Kuanr, and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Lakshmi Prasad Sahu.
