Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday condemned Khallikote poll violence incident which claimed one life.
Taking to his X handle, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote: “Deeply disturbed and saddened at the very unfortunate and tragic incident of violence in Khallikote area. Such incidents of violence have no place in our democracy and civil society. I strongly condemn this incident. My deepest condolence to the family who has lost their loved one and praying for early recovery of those who sustained injuries. I am sure police will take strong and exemplary action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”
It is pertinent to mention that a person was killed and eight others sustained critical injuries in an alleged clash between Biju Janata Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at Krushna Saranpur village under Khallikote police limits in Ganjam on Wednesday.
Concerned over the incident ahead of the second phase of elections in the state, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikuja Bihari Dhal has, meanwhile, directed the Ganjam District Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) to take action to contain pre-poll violence incidents in the district.
