Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has urged supporters and well-wishers to refrain from bringing flowers or gifts while visiting him on New Year’s Day. The Chief Minister also announced that he would not participate in any official celebrations marking the start of the New Year.
The decision comes in light of the seven-day State mourning declared to honour the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Additionally, the Chief Minister cited the hardships faced by farmers in several districts due to unseasonal rains as a reason for maintaining a subdued observance.
Deputy Chief Ministers Pravati Parida and KV Singh Deo have also announced their decision to avoid any New Year festivities during the mourning period.
