Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has doubled the financial assistance provided to the families of deceased advocates under the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act, 1987, enhancing the death benefit rates to strengthen social security for members of the legal fraternity.
The Law Department has notified the revised rates through an amendment to the Schedule of the Act, following a recommendation by the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Trust Committee.
The enhanced financial assistance will be determined on the basis of the completed years of professional practice of the deceased advocate. A separate provision has also been made for advocates with less than five years of practice.
The amendment has been carried out under the provisions of Sections 9 and 16, read with Section 16-B of the Act, taking into account the availability of funds.
The decision is aimed at providing greater financial relief to the bereaved families of advocates and strengthening the welfare and social security framework for the legal community.
The notification has been issued by the Law Department.
