Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Excise Department’s Enforcement Special Drive has achieved significant breakthroughs against illicit liquor and narcotics rackets across the state, marking its eighth day on Monday. According to official data, contraband valued at Rs 1.21 crore was seized in coordinated raids.
A total of 258 cases were registered, and 147 individuals were arrested for their involvement in the illegal trade. The enforcement teams reported substantial seizures, including 10,362 bulk litters of illicitly distilled liquor, 471 bulk litters of duty-paid liquor, and destruction of nearly 1,00,060 litters of wash, a key ingredient in ID liquor production. Additionally, 7,294 kilograms of Mohua flower, 24 kilograms of Bhang, and 13 vehicles were seized.
In a parallel crackdown under the NDPS Act, officials booked eight cases, seizing nearly 347 kilograms of ganja. The operations are part of the Department’s Zero Tolerance Policy against illicit liquor and drug trafficking, aiming to dismantle networks involved in the illegal supply chain and ensure stricter compliance with excise and narcotics laws.
The Department assured that the enforcement action will continue with equal vigour in the coming days, reinforcing the state’s goal of achieving a drug-free Odisha.
