Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 starting from the academic session 2025-26. As part of this initiative, the state has introduced a new minimum age requirement for admission to Class I.
According to official sources, the minimum age for admission to Class I has been set at six years or above. This decision was made after consultations with educationists and experts to ensure the holistic academic development of students.
In addition, the School and Mass Education Department has extended the age eligibility deadline from March 31 to September 1, providing greater flexibility for students and parents. This change aims to accommodate children who turn six years old later in the year, ensuring they are not disadvantaged during the admission process.
The move aligns with the NEP 2020’s focus on foundational learning and age-appropriate education, emphasizing the importance of a strong academic base for young learners.
