Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Sunday urged the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) to take the lead in fostering agricultural entrepreneurship among students, farmers, and the wider community.
Addressing the 64th Foundation Day ceremony of OUAT as the chief guest, the Governor emphasised the need for preparing comprehensive project profiles detailing cost estimates, land and power requirements, income projections, and available subsidy schemes.
“Such profiles will help farmers and students assess the financial viability of agricultural ventures and encourage entrepreneurship,” he said.
Dr. Kambhampati appreciated the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (Agricultural Science Centers) across the state in training farmers. He noted that some trainees have already initiated industrial activities and stressed that wider dissemination of project profiles and proper guidance could significantly boost participation in agri-based enterprises.
Congratulating the university on its foundation day, the Governor described agriculture as the backbone of the Indian economy and a part of the country’s cultural fabric. He said institutions like OUAT play a vital role in developing skilled manpower and tackling challenges such as climate change and market volatility.
Highlighting key growth areas, he called for focus on processing, value addition, marketing, exports, and adoption of advanced technologies like precision agriculture, biotechnology, AI, and sustainable resource management.
The Governor lauded OUAT’s recognition as a leading nodal center by the MSME Department for agricultural startups, having mentored 24 ventures. He said this aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and positions OUAT to empower youth, promote rural enterprises, and enhance Odisha’s global agricultural footprint.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who holds the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment portfolio, also addressed the gathering. He underscored the importance of organic farming and highlighted India’s transformation from a food-importing to a food-exporting nation.
Fisheries & Animal Resources Development and MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallick spoke about government initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and strengthening the agricultural ecosystem.
Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh and OUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pravat Kumar Roul also spoke on the occasion.
The event began with a welcome address by Dean of Extension Education Dr. Prasannajit Mishra and concluded with a vote of thanks by Registrar Pratibha Dora. Achieving students, progressive farmers, and staff members were felicitated. A commemorative booklet was released and a new Wi-Fi facility was inaugurated.
