Odisha Governor Urges Silicon University Graduates To Turn Ideas Into Enterprises

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday urged graduates of Silicon University to turn their knowledge and ideas into enterprises and use technology to address real-world problems facing society.

Addressing the third convocation ceremony of Silicon University in Bhubaneswar, the Governor called upon the graduates to leverage emerging technologies for livelihoods, research and entrepreneurship, particularly in clean energy and environmental sustainability.

He said sectors such as energy conservation, smart grids, green hydrogen, electric mobility, energy efficiency and sustainable production were creating significant opportunities for young professionals. Against the backdrop of climate change, environmental degradation and rising energy demand, renewable energy has assumed growing importance, he said.

The Governor also underlined the close links between energy security, economic stability and global peace, particularly in the context of instability in West Asia. He said India was gradually moving towards cleaner sources of energy, with solar, wind, hydro, bio-energy, geothermal and ocean energy expected to play important roles in the 21st century.

Urging the graduates to prepare for rapid technological changes, Kambhampati said artificial intelligence, machine learning, semiconductors, cyber security, robotics, advanced electronics, data science and digital healthcare were opening up new frontiers.

He stressed that continuous learning, innovation and the ability to work across disciplines would shape the leaders of the future. The graduates, he said, should not merely adapt to change but embrace it with curiosity, shape it through innovation and use it with wisdom for the progress of society and the nation.

Describing convocation as a transition from success to responsibility, the Governor said a degree was not merely a certificate but a reminder to use knowledge wisely in the service of society. Technology alone, he added, could not ensure human progress and had to be accompanied by integrity, humility and responsibility.

Congratulating the graduates, their families, teachers and staff, Kambhampati said Silicon University had established a distinct identity for academic excellence, innovation and technological advancement. Its recognition as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) for 2026-28 and its position in the NIRF Engineering rankings reflected its growing research culture, he said.

He expressed hope that the university would further expand its academic and research domains and called upon the graduates to contribute to India’s development through their ideas, skills, enterprise and character.

During the convocation, doctoral degrees and gold medals were awarded to students, while the degree recipients also took the oath.

Dr. Sridhar Balchandra Shukla, Chairman of the Board of Capgemini Technologies, attended the ceremony as the chief guest and addressed the gathering. Silicon University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaydeep Talukdar delivered the welcome address.
